MAD Firearms Transfers

Transfer Policies and Process

MAD Firearms Instructions:

Every incoming shipment MUST have a transfer request submitted below and APPROVAL received in response.  Any shipment received without a prior approved transfer may be refused/returned to sender.

Please read all instructions and policies regarding transfers below before filling out the form.

By filling out the form below you are agreeing to and are responsible for any information on this page.  Failure to comply with the instructions below WILL result in delays.

Transfers with MAD Firearms will be processed quickly and hassle free.  We will accept transfers from most dealers, distributors and individuals.  All you need to do once you have purchased a firearm or won an auction is to read the policies and instructions below and notify us of purchase.  We’ll take it from there. Once the firearm has been received and processed for pickup, we will call/email you to come fill out the appropriate state/federal paperwork.

Transfer Rules:

We will accept transfers from private individuals, other dealers, online distributors & manufacturers.

  • Please inform us (via email or contact us form) in advance of ALL FIREARMS BEING SHIPPED TO US, regardless of weather the shipper requires our information (even if we are on file with that dealer).  FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN PROCESSING DELAYS.
  • Please allow us time to contact the transferer and arrange exchange of FFL information.  This can range in time from 1 hour to 72 hours, depending on the method of exchange the FFL requires.
  • Once the firearm(s) arrive we must unpack, inspect and log them into our books.  Volume of incoming firearms means this may take up to 48 hours for the firearm to be ready to be picked up.  YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED WHEN YOUR FIREARM IS READY FOR PICKUP VIA PHONE/EMAIL.
  • Please do NOT come in or call until after we call/email you to inform you that your firearm(s) are ready for pickup.
  • Only the person listed on the transfer request may pick up the firearm(s).  NO EXCEPTIONS ** Please do not bring guests with you when picking up, this is for your safety as well as ours **
  • Customers have 15 calendar days from the date of arrival to start the paperwork to pickup the firearm(s).
  • After 15 days a $15 per day, per firearm storage fee will be incurred.
  • After 60 days the firearm(s) will be considered abandoned  and they may be sold.
  • Military Note: If you are deploying for service and cannot pickup a transferred firearm, please contact us and we can make arrangements.

As with all firearm sales and transfers: if any staff member at MAD Firearms feels uncomfortable with the sale, we reserve the right to deny the transfer or sale of the firearm and return the firearm to the seller.

Firearms Pickup Process:

After your firearm(s) have been received and processed into our system, we will call/email you to let you know that the gun is ready for paperwork (Maryland regulated firearm/handgun) or paperwork and pick up (long gun/shot gun).

  • For long gun/shotgun transfers, you will need a valid Maryland Drivers License and will need to fill out a Federal Form 4473 for background check.  Once your background check is approved, you can pay the transfer fee and generally leave the same day with your firearm.
  • For Maryland regulated firearm transfers (handgun(s)), you will need a valid Maryland Drivers License and Maryland HQL license. You will need to fill out a Federal Form 4473 and Maryland regulated firearm paperwork 77R.  Once all your federal and state background checks are approved, we will contact you to come back – pick up, pay your transfer fee and leave with your firearm (After the mandatory 7 day wait period).

If for any reason your background check is denied at the Federal or State level, you have 10 days to start the appeals process.  If you have not started the process within 10 days, we may ship the firearm back to the seller – billable to you, Or offer to sell the firearm for you for a 20% final value fee – less any charges from auction sites.  We will NOT sell the firearm in-state to anyone to avoid any possible straw purchases.  You are STILL responsible for the transfer fee in the event that you are denied for transfer.  We will not ship or sell the firearm until this fee had been paid.

Shipments from Private Sellers (non-FFL):

If the seller/sender is not a FFL holder, they can verify our FFL via the ATF’s E-Z Check Website by entering our “First 3 and Last 5 numbers of our FFL: X-XX, XXXXX for FFL confirmation and shipping address.  We will *NOT* provide a copy of our FFL to a non-FFL.

The seller MUST INCLUDE a photocopy of their unexpired drivers license and contact phone number & email with ALL INFORMATION LEGIBLE with the package.  Failure to do so will not allow us to log the firearm into our books and WILL result in a delay.

Returns:

In the event the customer is unsatisfied with their firearm(s), it is their right to refuse transfer.  However, it is the responsibility of the customer to make contact with the shipper and obtain an RMA or pay for return shipping as mentioned above.  MAD Firearms will NOT contact manufacturers or sellers for this information.  A transfer fee MAY still be charged on a return at the discretion of MAD Firearms.
